Striped bass (Morone saxatilis) fry and copepods
Some fish like striped bass (Morone saxatilis) are born with a nutritive yolk sac. As striped bass develop, their yolk sacs shrink and their mouths develop. When fish are the stage where they are able to eat on their own they are called “fry.”

Invasive worm
The vast majority of earthworms in much of North America are not native. Like other invasive species, these earthworm can to change the dynamics of an ecosystem. Often invasive earthworms will alter nutrient cycling and litter decomposition in surrounding areas, which can affect growth and success of native plants and trees. Sometimes the changes pave the way for other non-native and invasive species to establish.

The bay anchovy (Anchoa mitchilli) is a slender, translucent silvery-green fish with a striking silver stripe. Bay anchovies are an important food source for ecologically and economically important fish like bluefish, weakfish and striped bass. In the Chesapeake Bay, spawning typically occurs May through September and peaks in July. Females can spawn more than 1000 eggs during each spawning event and up to 50 times each season. Eggs often hatch within 24 hours and anchovies reach maturity (able to reproduce) within a few months after hatching.

Thanks for reaching out to us. So sorry to hear you’re having trouble downloading the eco-themed Valentine’s Day cards. Is there a particular error message you’re receiving, or are there any details you could provide about what happens when you attempt to download the images?
We added a second option, to download them as jpegs as well as pdfs. If you click on either of them, the pdf or jpeg should pop up, and then you can right click to save it (for the jpegs), or click the save or download icon (for the pdfs). The “Download” icon for pdfs looks like a downward arrow, located in the upper right. It shows up if you’re using Firefox or Google Chrome. The “Save” icon looks like a floppy disk in a black bar on the bottom. It shows up if you’re using Internet Explorer.
You may also want to double check that your browser has pop-ups enabled. Please let us know if one of these solutions doesn’t resolve the problem.
